Bank Employees Remain on Strike

The members of the Bank Employees Union under the aegis of All India Bank Employees Association participated in the one-day long strike on-strike-sign1against the proposed merger of State Bank of Indore in the State Bank of India, here on Wednesday.

Several members of the union gathered at the regional office of the Punjab National Bank and carried out a dharna against the proposed plan of the Central government of merging the State Bank of Indore into the State Bank of India.

Speaking on this occasion, Ashok Shukla, a senior leader of the union said, “State Bank of Indore is a strong bank as it has 440 branches across India and a total of Rs 29,000 crore as public deposit with it. It has also served Rs 2,200 crore as loan to its customers, therefore, it will be wrong on the part of the government to merge it with any other bank.”

Sudhir Sonkar, another senior member of the union said, “We have been successful in conducting a one-day strike today. The banks remained closed because of which there was neither any clearing of Cheque nor any cash transactions could take place, for which the cold attitude of the government is responsible.”

The senior dignitaries of the union vowed to continue with their strike if their demand is not met by the government.
