Rajat keshriya Indore

After two days on intense cold, the city was engulfed with dense fog on Tuesday morning. The weather of New Year has been erratic.

Starting from Sunday when cold was normal but by late afternoon, people felt intense cold, which continued on Monday as well.

On Tuesday, people woke up to a foggy morning and it remained till late in the morning and conditions were not conducive for driving even if one braved the cold condition. Vehicles were seen moving at snails pace with headlights on.

Many morning walkers preferred the warmth of blankets rather then venturing out. Some brave ones waited for fog to reduce so that they could go for their usual walk, but the fog did no oblige. Finally, some came out but their number was abysmally low compared to other days.

Yeshwant Club, Lalbagh Grounds, Meghdoot Garden, Residency Kothi, Rajmohalla Garden etc, which normally bustles with morning walkers and joggers, wore a deserted look.

Despite administration order to start the schools at 9 am, many schools are still following old time table pf 7 am. Schoolchildren were seen with their parents waiting for their bus in these cold and foggy conditions.

Quite naturally, the attendance in the schools was also very poor.

The dense fog and extremely low visibility played havoc with flight schedules and all morning flights without any exception were delayed. Flights coming from Delhi and Mumbai were asked to land in Bhopal and later allowed to proceed to Indore when visibility improved.

Jet Airways flight from Ahmedabad to Indore landed at 8.45 am instead of its scheduled 7.45 am and it proceeded to Lucknow, immediately.

Similarly, Air India flight from Mumbai to Delhi via Indore and Bhopal could not land on its scheduled time of 7 am. The flight landed here at 9.30 am.. The Ventura flight to Jabalpur left the city at 9.20 am, nearly one hour twenty minutes behind the schedule.

Other delayed flights were Jet Airways’Raipur- Indore- Jaipur and Indigo Airlines’Nagpur- Indore- Delhi.
